Before it became an Islamic state, Cairo was mostly Christian place with an ancient Christian heritage. So you will see there some Coptic and Jewish monuments that provides countless examples of architecture through the ages such as the hanging church, Abu Serga and Ben Ezra Synagogue. Appropriate dress covering the body including shoulders and legs is required for entering both coptic and Islamic monuments.
